November 9: A 34-year-old man is dead after a confrontation with police south of Sydney last night.
Assistant Commissioner Mick Fuller said police were patrolling Gwyther Avenue, Bulli when the officers “has cause” to stop the man.
“A struggle has ensued and the deceased was handcuffed. He unfortunately stopped breathing a short time later.”
Mr Fuller said the officer tried to revive the man, before paramedics took him to Wollongong Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A critical incident team from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including police use of handcuffs.
