Brisbane: teen charged with damaging cop memorial

12 August: Police have charged a 17-year-old male over the alleged vandalism of a memorial to a Queensland police officer killed in the line of duty. Police say vandals smashed a thick glass panel covering a photo of Sergeant Dan Stiller at a memorial to the officer at a park in Pallara, in Brisbane’s outer south, on Tuesday.

The teenager, of Heathwood, has been charged with one count of wilful damage. He is due to face the Richlands Magistrates Court on August 28, police said.

Sgt Stiller died in 2010 when the wide-load truck he was escorting crashed and hit his police motorcycle at Mt Larcom. He was 33.
