Rockhampton: politicians’ home and office ramraided

January 25: A 62-year-old man was charged with three counts of willful damage for allegedly driving his car into the house and office of Member for Rockhampton Robert Schwarten and Federal Member for Capricornia Kirsten Livermore.

Police say Brian John Hellier rammed Mr Schwarten’s home  in his car about 6pm on January 24, causing significant damage to the garage roller door and the politician’s Lexus parked inside. It is alleged Hellier then drove to Ms Livermore’s Denison St office and reversed into the door, having earlier rammed the garage door of a unrelated person in a case of mistaken identity.

Police said there was “a litany of threatening anti-government signs strewn across his front fence.”

Hellier did not enter a plea, saying if police could prove he committed the crime he would “take the rap”. He was denied bail and remanded to March 28
